Dear Friend
Thank you for dropping into The Marc Fisher Trust web site and I hope you find
something in its content to interest you. I know it will give you an overview
of the Trust and its work.
My son Marc died from Non Hodgkins Lymphoma in October 1994 two weeks after his 28th birthday. His courage and his will to live that he showed throughout his illness inspired my family and myself to form the Trust and fund the research. My son did not want to die, he loved life and he loved people but this research is not for him , it is to save other young lives.
Non Hodgkins Lymphoma is the sixth fastest growing cancer in the U. K. today. There are 8,000 new cases a year reported in the U. K. and it is growing at the rate of 5% per year. Every year some 4,900 people die from this cancer and the latest figures show that a large percentage of these are in the 1 8---35 age group. These are the latest figures published for the year 1998. How many people have lost their lives since then.?
The number of new cases each year is cause for concern, but unfortunately, prevention of the disease has not yet been achieved, but is the number of people losing their lives using the present best treatment available , that is horrifying.
We hope this research will be the answer. There is no Government Funding but the research must carry on. That is what the Marc Fisher Trust is all about. That is what the research at The Royal Free is all about. That is why we need your help.
How can you help? By sending a donation or by helping us to raise funds in any way you can, or both. Whatever you can do we will be most grateful. Unless you object we will put your name on our mailing list to keep you aware of our activities. In the meantime should you need any further information do not hesitate to contact us.
Yours sincerely
